Convoy to Eureka Springs Information

Construction Advisory

For those of you traveling from the North, remember, the bridge over the Missouri River (I-35/I-29) will be closed for repair, call Ed for other route suggestions. Ed lives in the vicinity of I-70 and I-435. The only time anyone will have trouble is if they stay on I35 all the way through downtown KC.
There are two scenarios.
1) If the folks are coming to my place on Sunday evening, they need to get on I435 south on the Kansas Side. Direct exit off I29 at Parkville, or take MO152 west off I35 at Liberty. That will put them on I435 on the west side of Kansas City. They can then take US69 or US71 south to Arkansas (a much more pleasant drive, way fewer big rigs)
2) If they're going straight to Eureka Springs, take I435 east/south around the east side of KC and then take US71 south. There is an exit off I-35; I435 and I29 are the same road close to the airport. I29 travelers would take the I435 split and continue east.

Dallas to Eureka Springs

We are planning a convoy from Dallas , Texas on the morning of June 27 th leaving at 8am . It looks like we will be taking 75/69 north for about 200 miles then get on 40 in Arkansas , then 540 North. If we leave Dallas at 8am that should get us there about 6pm that night. We’ll stop along the way for food, refreshments and other things. It’s a great way for us to all travel with the security of having others incase of a mechanical emergency. If you would like to convoy with us please let me know as soon as you can so we can know to wait on you and I’ll let you know where we will meet in Dallas . If you can get the following information to me as soon as possible that would help plan the convoy. There is a Denny's restrauant right next to the Steak and Ale for any of you who were traveling and want Breakfast.

Kansas City Tour to Eureka Springs

To: All ROA travelers on their way to Eureka Springs

From: Ed Raner, Regional Coordinator KS/MO

Sunday night, June 26, there will be an open house at my place for all you travelers on your way to Eureka Springs. I live in Shawnee, Kansas, a suburb west of Kansas City, MO.

I can’t attach my maps, they’re too big; but if you want to get a map from www.mapquest.com type in 5013 Woodstock Street, Shawnee, Kansas 66218. I live about 10 miles south of the new Kansas Speedway.

If you’re coming from the west on I-70, you’ll want to exit on to Kansas Highway 7 (Bonner Springs Exit) and go south. Drive across the Kansas River to the stop light at Johnson Dr/55th Street – roughly five miles. Turn east onto Johnson Drive and go to the four way stop at Woodland. Go north on Woodland 6/10ths of a mile to 50th Terrace. Go west on 50th Terrace two blocks to Woodstock. I live on the northeast corner of 50th Terrace and Woodstock. Mine is the gray-green house with a big American flag in the front yard and a retaining wall in the back.

If you’re coming from the north or east, (I70, I35, or I29) take I-435 south to Johnson Drive, exit 6C, and go west a little over two miles. You will pass the Mid America Sports complex on your left, cross over the railroad tracks, and pass the JCGAA softball complex on your right. At the four way stop, Woodland and Johnson Drive, go north on Woodland 6/10ths of a mile to 50th Terrace. Go west on 50th Terrace two blocks to Woodstock. I live on the northeast corner of 50th Terrace and Woodstock, gray-green house with the big American flag and retaining wall.

If you’d like to stop in, Linda and I would love to have you. So that I’ll know how much junk food to buy, please reply to this email if you plan on dropping in.

There are some nice hotels/motels in the area that have good rates, I'll let you arrange this for yourself.

We'll all convoy to Eureka Springs on Monday morning picking up the group from Central Kansas and some of the other Missouri members on our way. It will be a blast, don't miss it.

If you want more information, contact Ed at eeraner@kc.rr.com or call him at (913) 422-1527. He will send you a map of the KC area and a list of hotels/motels that are on your route. Ed and Linda look forward to seeing you on Sunday night.

North Carolina To Eureka Springs

Anyone interested in Car-A-Vanning from NC to Eureka Springs? I am planning on leaving Greensboro, NC at noon on Sunday, June 26th, stopping for the night approximately 30 miles west of Nashville, TN, and staying at the Comfort Inn at exit 172 off of I-40 in Dickson, TN. The Comfort Inn rate is between $60 and $70 per night, plus taxes (other discounts may apply and could bring the rate down to $55). I have checked with them and can block up to 9 rooms there as needed. Planning on leaving Dickson at approximately 8AM Monday morning for Eureka Springs. Stopping at Dickson puts the approximate travel time between 8.5 and 9 hours on Sunday and between 9.5 and 10 hours on Monday including a one hour stop for a meal each day. This, of course, depends on how many stops we make to pick up others joining us.

As of right now I have two members interested and have planned to pick one up in Morganton, NC just west of Hickory and the other one we will meet in Knoxville, TN during our rest stop Sunday. Any members interested in joining us please let me know and I’ll add that stop into the time line. Anyone from Tennessee interested in meeting us at the hotel Monday morning, please contact me in advance so I might know how many to expect so no one is left behind.

Any suggestions for a different route or different times let me know. If interested in joining us please let me know ASAP so I can get all stops and times figured in.

Central Kansas To Eureka Springs

We in Central Kansas have also been planning to caravan and join up with the KC bunch as they travel through Fort Scott, Kansas.  I have sent out postcards to that effort to our membership, but want to extend a warm welcome for any others to join us. After all, why not have a "show" all the way down there.  Do you know how good a few Riviera look going down the highway.  Wow!

Just contact me ASAP with phone number at home, business, cell etc so we can make contact with meeting place and start times. Also my home has two extra bedrooms that are available at a special price (free) to anybody coming to join us from afar.  I live in McPherson, Ks. Just an hour north of Wichita and we'll all funnel down to Wichita for the first rendezvous prior to meeting in Fort Scott on Monday morning. Come join in the fun.
